Sameer Pradhan’s Perspecive of the 2016 AHR EXPO Connected Community Collaboratory for India

February 7, 2016 by Ken Smyers 1 Comment

Sameer Sameer Pradhan, Director of ControlTrends India provides his in-depth perspective of the 2016 AHR EXPO Connected Community Collaboratory.

In the rapidly changing world of technology today, be it data analytics, cloud, security or wireless control, the common theme is “Connections”. Ken Sinclair, Owner Automated Buildings.com and Marc Petock, Sr. VP Marketing, Lynxspring set up the Connected Community Collaboratory (CCC) four years ago at the AHR EXPO in Chicago. At the 4th CCC held this year at the AHR Expo in Orlando, FL, Ken Sinclair brought together five thought leaders from various areas of the industry, in a free-flowing chat (no PPTs allowed) to share their views and contributions to effective collaboration and transformation.

Andy McMillan, president BACnet International, opened the discussion with an insight into global transformation in all walks of our lives and encouraged each building automation professional to be open, connected, collaborative and receptive. Marc Petock rightly called 2016 as the year of Collaboration! Key drivers of collaboration are Cyber Security, which is now more a business issue than a technical one, as it drives everything that goes into our buildings today. Among other drivers are Data, Analytics and IoT. IoT, more specifically in terms of transformation of traditional controls into device-to-enterprise solutions that often eliminate middleware. Lastly applications, which continue to drive collaborative efforts between energy folks, analytics folks, security folks and building owners, leading to transformation.

John Petze, president SkyFoundry echoed the concept of “Making it Mashable”, to bring disparate data together, which he has been doing through his company SkyFoundry and through Project Haystack, where the focus lies on common data description irrespective of its protocol. Troy Davis, Sales Director North America, EnOcean spoke of the common challenge faced by wireless industry, of having multiple technologies and protocols such as Bluetooth, Zigbee, EnOcean, now being blended together with bridges being built to merge and collaborate into a standard platform. A collaborative effort  in terms of successful case studies will further enhance transformation of the wireless industry, as we see it today! Paul Oswald, President ESI|CBRE, a master systems integrator, represents a living example of change and collaboration with his firm’s recent merger with CBRE, a global leader in real estate services.

An educative and thought-provoking session! Here’s the ControlTrends video for those who missed this great event.
