As India surges ahead on its Smart City Mission, valuable contributions continue to pour in from around the world. In conversation with ControlTrends India, Andreas Binkert, Sr. Vice President, Nuesch Development, Switzerland, emphasises the Top Down Bottom Up approach for the Private and Public Sector to co-operate for Smart Urban Development. Planning foundations of Smart Cities must consider population densities (High/Medium/Low) as well as Connectivities (flow of people, goods, energy and information. Contrary to popular belief, A Smart City need not be a Sci-Fi HiTech world. Whenever and wherever possible, NoTech or LowTech must be applied for reasons of cost and energy consumption. The sustainable concept is clear and well accepted, but the financial aspect is not yet solved. Highest and best use of local, natural and cultural resources will empower the local community to implement local qualities into the Smart City Concept to receive returns over time from investors.
